The world lays more barren than it did in days of old. There is little left to hunt that would need an especially large or tough dog, even if technology had not moved on. Few wolves roam where once there were many, even fewrt bears and none of the old European big cats.
Healing is often improved with good food. Fear not though, people do not come to me expecting food. They are always quite shocked. [Probably because she avoids most company like it is the plague.] Do you people not believe in guest rights? To not offer food would be... far worse than impolite.
We are left now to simply prey more often upon one another, than wild beasts that roam. In any case, they were good dogs.
What is on the menu for my kind is usually not what others would consider appetizing. As for guests, I can't say I entertain many. Some vampires enjoy hunting in packs, but on occasion a meal is left waiting for them.
I'm afraid I do not prey on man or beast, unless keeping livestock counts. [Because yes, she did occasionally eat them, and her chickens laid eggs that she ate more often than that.] There are still many good dogs if you miss them so.
Vampire packs do somehow sound less appealing than being set upon by wolves of yore, if you will forgive me for saying so.
Then you are rare. Most people in my experience are predators in one fashion or another when given the opportunity. As for pets, my lifestyle right now is not conducive to one. Memories will suffice. At least this way my socks are not at risk for getting taken.
No reason to apologize for a reasonable statement. Vampire covens should largely be avoided. I grew tired of them, myself. Do your kind ever join together, for companionship and protection?
I wish for only peace and quiet. It is not in my nature to hunt. [Which included for food, though she knew how. Years of living out of town on the land taught one many a skill even if you didn't especially want said skill.] That works until you have neighbours whose dog has a thing for feet.
Some do. Most, probably. [She had a family, a temple, a place to call home and a gaggle of friends not five years ago after all until she had become so overwhelmed that she cast off all of that beautiful warmth and fled into the great unknown.] It is very human to want companionship and my "kind" as you say are generally human. [Ish.]
The fact that you want to be on tour makes that quite obvious. I could never do such a thing.
It is understandable, though it seems like it would make food something of a problem, assuming you can't get away with slaughtering a whole house of people every evening. [Better to discuss murder than her clear isolation.]
The spotlight is not for everyone. I welcome it, targets and all. At least what is being heard are things I wish to say, not what is being said for me.
No, widespread slaughter was generally frowned upon even back then, to say nothing of now where investigations have gotten more detailed. That is their problem though, not mine.
Whereas I would prefer nobody heard of me at all. [If she could find a way to vanish into the forest and survive it, she would.]
I can't imagine there are a lot of vampire fingerprints on record and identified. You and yours don't seem to be the type to stop and let police record them.
You remind me very much of someone I know. She has taken to living in the jungle for many centuries now. Alone aside from the nature and animals native to that land. I see her every decade or so and she is equally baffled at my love for living in cities.
Even vampires cannot escape whispers and rumors when enough slaughter happens repeatedly over time. We are powerful but not as great in numbers, so. Many do still opt for discretion.
She can survive alone in the jungle? I have never gone to warmer woods, but they seem more perilous than the ones I haunt.
No, I doubt they can escape whispers even when the murders are few except in certain locations. Still I didn't think the old witch hunt would work on creatures faster than the human eye can see.
She can, yes. She has for a long time. She's a vampire though, so that does make one more durable.
Even vampires can have vulnerable moments. Though, if one is not successful in taking advantage of them, then they are certainly as good as dead for trying.
I wasn't sure based on the general air of murder that follows a vampire to town.
It's not their grudges I am at risk of, I think. Though I suppose you could tell me. Is a powerful healer more at risk due to grudge or curiosity about the vibrancy of her life essence?
If those books are true then most of you scorn the option.
I can't imagine how I am even making anyone begrudge me let alone a vampire who does not need my aid. Sometimes people blame me when I come to the aid of one and not another as if I can be in two places at once.
The books are not entirely incorrect, but also, not precisely truthful.
Of course people care about aiding who they prefer first. People are inherently selfish and seek to unload their anger on others rather than deal with it themselves. It doesn't stop at healing. People get pissy if they think someone got in line ahead of them at the grocery store.
How true are the very long self introductions in yours? But no, I imagine no one is unbiased, especially not the centuries old vampires with a bone or two to pick with each other. [Exceedingly publicly, no less.]
And you see why I live as far out of town as is feasible without becoming a literal hermit. They know where to find me if it is serious enough.
I can do more than heal. That's like suggesting painters only paint. I will see if I can order one then and see if it grants me a revelation like it is apparently granting so many others.
Truthfully I think that's the cats, but the goats would make good help for them.
